Please welcome… (Drum roll…)
my new buddy - “Pula”! “Pula” is actually my bike which I bought from a good
friend of mine, Francine, before she left for Netherlands last December. She’s named “Pula”; because she’s redJ (pula
is Filipino word for the red
color). I felt sorry for letting her stay at the parking area for months. I
just couldn’t withstand riding Pula at 0-5oC with my ears and nose
getting so red and my hands so numbed by the cold wind despite my outfit to
protect myself. But I never let a day to
go by without taking a glimpse of her (she’s parked in front of my window).
Now, gone is the cold season that
kept me from taking her to my everyday trips, whether to go to school, or to
the nearby shop to buy some stuff I need or just for an ice cream or a
chocolate bar. She’s now my buddy! With her, I am so happy exploring places
where buses can’t take me. I am
experiencing the freedom of enjoying the scenery without bothering about the
bus time schedule. I can stop whenever I
wanted to (especially when I have to consult the map just to ensure that I am
not lost and I am taking the right lane!). I also have the chance to meet people along
the way whom most of them are wearing happy faces! Or was it me who’s smiling
that I saw my reflection in them?
With “Pula”, I don’t have to buy a
card for unlimited bus ride. I can still enjoy an unlimited ride with her,
anyway! Plus, I somehow help reduce
pollution and I have no worries on the rising fuel prices! Aside from that, I can
have my daily exercise and save my knees from the stress of jogging, because
for unknown reasons I don’t like jogging that much. Plus, according to experts, half an hour spent
with her cuts my risk of heart disease to half, lowers my blood
pressure and reduces my risk of developing adult-onset diabetes (good news for
me who craves a lot for ice cream and chocolate!).
I never knew (and I don’t wanna
waste time knowing either) how many “masters” she had. But she’s still in good condition, always
ready to give me a pleasant ride despite the ragged grips and seat. So far, I haven’t encountered troubles with
her, except when she needs some air for her tires. And I prayed that for the
coming days, she will continue to stay in good shape.
I fancy being like her, always
trusting her master(s) at all times and doing her best to make her master(s)
happy. I only have one Master and He’s really
taking good care of me though He sometimes leads me to some tough journeys in
life. Yet, along the way, He never
failed to let me see the wonders of His creation and make me realize the
magnificence of life’s journey.
